Ichung’wah accuses opposition of inciting violence, warns against divisive politics

Ichung’wah condemned recent protests, accusing opposition leaders of exploiting public demonstrations to cause chaos rather than promote dialogue.
National Assembly Majority Leader and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah has criticized the opposition for what he described as fueling unrest and spreading division across the country.
Speaking during an empowerment event in Narok County on Saturday, July 12, 2025, Ichung’wah condemned recent protests, accusing opposition leaders of exploiting public demonstrations to cause chaos rather than promote dialogue.
“The constitution provides for peaceful demonstrations ones where people air their grievances respectfully and give others a chance to be heard,” Ichung’wah said. “But what we’ve witnessed are unruly gatherings led by people whose only agenda is to bring down President William Ruto’s government.”
He alleged that the opposition has been mobilizing violent groups to accompany them during protests, claiming the activities were not about genuine grievances but rather an obsession with undermining the head of state.
The Majority Leader maintained that the Kenya Kwanza government remains committed to delivering its promises, especially on economic empowerment and development under the bottom-up transformation agenda.
“We won’t be drawn into petty politics or hate campaigns. Instead, we’re moving across the country to implement meaningful projects like building markets to empower ordinary Kenyans,” he added. “What the people want are visionary leaders who will help them grow their businesses, not incite them against others.”
Ichung’wah’s remarks come amid heightened political tensions, particularly after a public fallout with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
On Wednesday, July 9, Ichung’wah responded strongly to Gachagua’s claims that he was behind attacks on police stations during the recent Saba Saba demonstrations. In a post shared on his X page, Ichung’wah dismissed the accusations as outrageous and baseless.
“I’ve tried to ignore Mr. Rigathi Gachagua’s repeated and senseless accusations out of respect and maybe even pity for a man still recovering from the pain of impeachment,” he wrote.
He claimed that Gachagua’s hostility stems from his 2024 ouster as Deputy President and has since evolved into a dangerous obsession with sabotaging the current administration.
“The line has now been crossed,” Ichung’wah said. “His bitterness, resentment, and relentless attacks on the president and myself are no longer personal they’ve become a national threat. His politics of deception, intimidation, and orchestrated chaos are poisoning the soul of our nation and undermining our democracy.”
